Looking Forth as the Morning - Song of Songs 6:10

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said, “there are threescore queens, and fourscore concubines, and virgins without number. My dove, my undefiled is but one; she is the only one of her mother, she is the choice one of her that bare her. The daughters saw her, and blessed her; yes, the queens and the concubines, and they praised her”, and in chapter six and verse ten of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom asked, “who is she that looks forth as the morning?” where we read,

Who is she that looks forth as the morning,

fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners?

The verse begins, Who is she that looks forth as the morning, ... Solomon began with the words, “who is she” or “what person exist she, the bride” “that looks forth as the morning” which means “who appears, gazes and observes similar and in likeness to the dawn or early light”. Solomon shared how the groom questioned what person the bride was who appeared similar to the early light at dawn.

The verse continues, ... fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners? Solomon added the words, “fair as the moon” or “beautiful, goodly, pleasant and comely like the moon in the nighttime sky”, “clear as the sun” which means “pure and sincere like the sun in the daytime sky”, “and terrible” or “and dreadful, awe-inspiring and awesome” “as an army with banners” which means “like a host of soldiers accompanied by conspicuous flags”? Solomon continued to share how the groom questioned the one coming who was beautiful like the nighttime moon, pure like the daytime sun and awesome like a host of soldiers with conspicuous flags.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the groom repeated his idea of the bride being extremely beautiful, and he questioned who the woman was who appeared like the dawn, comely as the nighttime moon, pure as the daytime sun and awesome like a host of soldiers with eye-catching flags. The groom greatly admired the bride, and he wanted everyone to know just how beautiful and wonderful she was. God loves us, and He wants a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a beauty to which the morning light, daytime sun, nighttime moon and a host of soldiers with eye-catching flags cannot compare.

Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, “I went down into the garden of nuts, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
