In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said to the bride, “How beautiful are your feet with shoes, O prince's daughter! the joints of your thighs are like jewels, the work of the hands of a cunning workman. Your navel is like a round goblet, which wants not liquor: your belly is like an heap of wheat set about with lilies. Your two breasts arelike two young roes that are twins”, and in chapter seven and verse four of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said, “your neck is as a tower of ivory” where we read,
Your neck is as a tower of ivory; your eyes like the fishpools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bathrabbim:
Your nose is as the tower of Lebanon which looks toward Damascus.
The verse reads, “Your neck is as a tower of ivory; your eyes like the fishpools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bathrabbim:”Solomon began with the words, “your neck” or “your, the bride's, physical neck” “is as a tower of ivory” which means “exists similar and in likeness to a rostrum, castle or a pillar shaped structure made with lex talionis or tines of ivory”;“your eyes” or “your, the bride's, physical eyes” “like the fishpools” which means “similar and in likeness to pools or ponds” “in Heshbon” or “within Heshbon whose name means stronghold and was the capital city of Sihon, king of the Amorites and located on the western border of the high plain and on the border line between the tribes of Reuben and Gad”, “by the gate of Bathrabbim” which means “beside and next to the entrance, marketplace and public meeting place belonging to Bathrabbim whose name means daughter of multitudes and was the city of Heshbon or one of its gates”. Solomon shared how the groom told the bride that her physical neck was similar to a pillar shaped structure made with“ivory”, and her physical eyes were similar to the pools within the capital city of Sihon next to the entrance or marketplace known as “Bathrabbim”.
The verse continues, “Your nose is as the tower of Lebanon which looks toward Damascus.” Solomon added the words, “your nose” which means “your physical nostrils, snout or nose of the face” “is as the tower of Lebanon” or “exists similar and in likeness to the rostrum, castle or pillar belonging to Lebanon whose name means whiteness and was a wooded mountain range on the northern border of Israel” “which looks toward Damascus” which means “that watches, observes and peers toward Damascus whose name means 'silent is the sackcloth weaver' and was an ancient trading city, capital of Syria, located in the plain east of Hermon, 130 (205 km) miles northeast of Jerusalem”. Solomon shared how the groom said the bride's physical nose was similar to the rostrum belonging to “Lebanon” that watches toward the city of “Damascus”.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the groom continued to speak well of the bride's physical features. He spoke of her neck, eyes and nose, and each of them were attractive to him. He knew the bride, and he relished her beauty. God knows us, and He loves us as well. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and express His love to us over and over through His word and His Holy Spirit throughout eternity.
Next time Solomon shares how the groom says, “your head upon you is like Carmel” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
