A Garden Enclosed - Song of Songs 4:12

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said to the bride, “Your lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under your tongue; and the smell of your garments is like the smell of Lebanon”, and in chapter four and verse twelve of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said, a garden enclosed is my sister, my spouse where we read,

A garden enclosed is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed.

The verse begins, A garden enclosed is my sister, my spouse; Solomon began with the words, “a garden enclosed” or “a private fenced in plotted and planted area” “is my sister” which means “exists as my, the groom's, treasure and intimate companion”, “my spouse” or “my, the groom's, bride”. Solomon shared how the groom considered his intimate companion and well-loved bride to be similar to a planted field that is fenced in.

The verse goes on to say, a spring shut up, a fountain sealed. Solomon continued with the words, “a spring shut up” or “a secluded flowing wave or billow”, “a fountain sealed” which means “a stopped and closed off source of water of satisfaction”. Solomon shared how the groom considered the bride to be similar to a secluded billow and a closed off water source of satisfaction.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the groom continued to share the characteristics of the bride and he likened her to a private fenced in planted area and a secluded billowing wave and closed off source of water. The groom loved the bride, and her physical and mental traits were appreciated by him. God created us for His pleasure, plan and purpose, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins so we could enjoy a personal intimate relationship with Him. When we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us special traits and abilities that allow us to be with Him for all eternity.

Next time Solomon shares how the groom says, your plants are an orchard of pomegranates so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
