Four Horns - Zechariah 1:18

In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how, the LORD of hosts” said, “My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem, and in chapter one and verse eighteen of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “I saw, and behold four horns” where we read,

Then lifted I up my eyes, and saw, and behold four horns.

The verse reads, Then lifted I up my eyes, and saw, ... Zechariah began with the words, “then lifted I up my eyes” or “at that time I, Zechariah, exalted, advanced and raised my physical eyes”, “and saw” which means “and noticed, discerned and discovered” the following. Zechariah said he raised his physical eyes and observed the following.

The verse continues, ... and behold four horns.. Zechariah added the words, “and behold” or “and lo, look and consider” “four horns” which means “four appendages, peaks or powers”. Zechariah shared how he observed and considered four peaks or powers.

When we think through Zechariah's words in this verse, we discover another vision that was given unto him. He raised his “eyes” and observed four “powers”. These were spiritual entities that we shall learn more about in our next few verses, but for now let us remember that God has all things and beings under His control, and He employs them for His purposes and will. He wants everyone to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us an understanding that He rules in the spiritual world where we shall live with Him forever.

Next time Zechariah asks the angel, “what be these?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
