In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the daughters of Jerusalem asked the bride, “What is your beloved more than another beloved, O you fairest among women? What is your beloved more than another beloved, that you do so charge us?”, and in chapter five and verse ten of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “my beloved is white and ruddy” where we read,
My beloved is white and ruddy, the chief among ten thousand.
The verse begins, “My beloved is white and ruddy, ...” Solomon began with the words, “my beloved” or “my, the bride's, well-loved groom” “is white” which means “exists as dazzling, glowing, clear and bright” “and ruddy” or “and of red or rosy cheeks”. Solomon shared how the bride described her well-loved groom as dazzling and clear which speaks to purity and of rosy cheeks as though stained or tinted with blood.
The verse goes on to say, “... the chief among ten thousand.” Solomon continued with the words, “the chief” or “the flag raised or conspicuous one” “among ten thousand” which means “in the midst and middle of ten thousand, millions or a myriad other males”. Solomon shared how the bride considered her well-loved groom to be the most conspicuous in the midst of “ten thousand” others.
When we mediate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the bride spoke of her well-loved groom's character as dazzling and pure with rosy blood colored cheeks as though an outdoorsman, and in her view, he was the greatest in the midst of ten thousand others. God wants us to view Him in this manner, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to see Him as pure, radiant and distinguished among tens of millions of thousands of others who are available.
Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, “his head is as the most fine gold” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
