In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said to the bride, “Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; camphire, with spikenard, spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices”, and in chapter four and verse fifteen of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom added, “a fountain of gardens” where we read,
A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon.
The verse begins, “A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, ...” Solomon began with the words, “a fountain of gardens” or “a satisfying spring or well containing enclosed and fenced off planted fields or plots”, “a well of living waters” which means “a pit or spring containing flowing, fresh, active transitory and refreshing watercourses”. Solomon shared how the groom considered his bride to be a secluded and enclosed area of planted fields and a spring of flowing and refreshing waters as well as the following.
The verse continues, “.... and streams from Lebanon.” Solomon added the words, “and streams” or “and flowing, distilled and dropping waters” “from Lebanon” which means “separate and apart from Lebanon whose name means whiteness a wooded mountain range on the northern border of Israel”. Solomon shared how the groom also included the flowing dropping waters from the area of the mountain range of “Lebanon” to exist within the garden of the bride.
When we think through the words in this verse, we discover how Solomon continued to convey the groom's view of the bride and her being like an “orchard” or “garden”. A fountain of gardens, springs of active watercourses and flowing waters from “Lebanon” were all part of the “garden” of the bride, and the groom admired her for it. God notices us too, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and fill the “garden” of our lives according to the purposes and plans He desires to be fulfilled in us.
Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, “awake, O north wind; and come, you south” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
