In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said to the bride, “How fair and how pleasant are you, O love, for delights! This your stature is like to a palm tree, and your breasts to clusters of grapes”, and in chapter seven and verse eight of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said, “I will go up to the palm tree” where we read,
I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof:
now also your breasts shall be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of your nose like apples;
The verse reads, “I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof:” Solomon began with the words, “I said” or “I, the groom, uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “I will go up to the palm tree” which means “I, the groom, shall ascend and climb the tree with date fruit”, “I will take hold” or “I, the groom, shall seize, take possession, catch and grasp” “of the boughs thereof” which means “of the fruit-stalk of the date tree”. Solomon shared how the groom declared that he would climb the “date-palm tree” and seize the fruit-stalks within it.
The verse continues, “now also your breasts shall be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of your nose like apples;” Solomon added the words, “now also your breasts” which means “at this time and moment even so and indeed your, the bride's, bosoms” “shall be as clusters of the vine” or “will exist similar and in likeness to agglomerations or bunches belonging to the twining vine filled with grapes”, “and the smell of your nose” which means “and the scent, fragrance, aroma and odor belonging to your, the bride's, nostrils or nose of the face” “like apples” or “similar to the fruit known as apples”. Solomon shared how the groom spoke of the bride's bosoms existing like bunches of “grapes” and the aroma of her nostrils, or breath being similar to the scent of “apples”.
When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the groom continued to complement the bride as he spoke of climbing the “date-palm tree” where he would grasp the fruit thereon, her bosoms that were similar to bunches of grapes and the breath from her nose being like the scent of “apples”. The groom admired his bride, and because He was in love with her, he raved over her beauty time and time again. God loves us, and He demonstrated His love toward us while we were yet sinners when He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. (See John 3:16; Romans 5:8) When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a beauty and fruitfulness of which He shall glean for all eternity. (See Galatians 5:22-23)
Next time Solomon shares how the groom says, “the roof of your mouth like the best wine” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
