In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “my beloved is white and ruddy, the chief among ten thousand. His head is as the most fine gold, his locks are bushy, and black as a raven. His eyes are as the eyes of doves by the rivers of waters, washed with milk, and fitly set. His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as sweet flowers: his lips like lilies, dropping sweet smelling myrrh”, and in chapter five and verse fourteen of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “his hands are as gold rings” where we read,
His hands are as gold rings set with the beryl: his belly is as bright ivory overlaid with sapphires.
The verse begins, “His hands are as gold rings set with the beryl:” Solomon began with the words, “his hands” or “his, the groom's, physical hands” “are as gold rings” which means “exist similar and in likeness to precious rounded bars of gold metal” “set with the beryl” or “filled with the precious stone or gem which was perhaps a chrysolite, yellow jasper or other yellow colored stone”. Solomon shared how the bride described the groom's physical hands to be similar to gold metal bars which were filled with precious gem stones such as chrysolite.
The verse goes on to say, “his belly is as bright ivory overlaid with sapphires.” Solomon continued with the words, “his belly” or “his, the groom's, abdomen or stomach” “is as bright ivory” which means “exists as fabricated smooth and shiny plate or lex talionis or tines of ivory” “overlaid with sapphires” or “covered, encrusted and enwrapped with lapis lazuli or sapphire stone”. Solomon shared how the bride described the groom's stomach to be like polished “ivory” which is decorated with lapis lazuli.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon wrote how the bride continued to share more details about the groom. This time she spoke of his “hands” and “stomach”, and each of them were enumerated with precious metals and jewels - “gold metal bars” with chrysolite and smooth “ivory” covered with “sapphire” stones. In other words, the groom's features were valuable. God wants us to realize the value in Him, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us an understanding of how extremely valuable He is and how He values us beyond measure.
Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, “his legs are as pillars of marble” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
