A Round Goblet Naval - Song of Songs 7:2

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said to the bride, “How beautiful are your feet with shoes, O prince's daughter! the joints of your thighs are like jewels, the work of the hands of a cunning workman”, and in chapter seven and verse two of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said, “your naval is like a round goblet”where we read,

Your navel is like a round goblet, which wants not liquor:

your belly is like an heap of wheat set about with lilies.

The verse begins, Your navel is like a round goblet, which wants not liquor: Solomon began with the words, “your naval” or “your, the bride's, bodice or umbilical cord” “is like a round goblet” which means “exists similar and in likeness to a basin or curved bowl” “which wants not liquor” or “that does not lack or have a need for mixed or tempered wine”. Solomon shared how the bride's “navel” was similar to a curved bowl that did not lack in tempered wine.

The verse goes on to say, your belly is like an heap of wheat set about with lilies. Solomon continued with the words, “your belly” or “your, the bride's, stomach or abdomen” “is like an heap of wheat” which means “exists similar and in likeness to a mound or pile containing grain such as wheat” “set about with lilies” or “hedged or fenced around by tubular or trumpet shaped flowers”. Solomon shared how the groom told the bride that her abdomen existed similar to a pile of grain that was surrounded by trumpet shaped flowers.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the groom continued to rave over the beauty within the bride. According to him, her “navel” was similar to a curved bowel without a need for tempered wine, and her stomach was similar to a pile of “wheat grain” which was hedged by tubular shaped flowers or lilies. These were beautiful words that continued to speak favorably to the bride, and even as in those days a “curved navel” and round stomach was considered very attractive, the groom made note of each of them. All these details convey to us the love the groom had for the bride, and God loves us in this manner. “God so loved the world that He sent His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life” (See John 3:16), and when we put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and share with us over and over again how much He loves us and desires to have us love Him in return.

Next time Solomon shares how the groom says, “your two breasts are like two young roes” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
