How Fair is Your Love - Song of Songs 4:10

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said to the bride, “You have ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse; you have ravished my heart with one of your eyes, with one chain of your neck”, and in chapter four and verse ten of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said to the bride, how fair is your love, my sister, my spousewhere we read,

How fair is your love, my sister, my spouse!

How much better is your love than wine! and the smell of your ointments than all spices!

The verse begins, How fair is your love, my sister, my spouse! Solomon began with the words, “how fair is your love” or “to what beautiful and lovely extent exists your, the bride's, extreme affection and appetite”, “my sister” which means “my, the groom's, intimate companion”, “my spouse” or “my, the groom's, well-loved bride”! Solomon once again spoke of the beautiful affection of his intimate companion, the bride.

The verse goes on to say, How much better is your love than wine! and the smell of your ointments than all spices!Solomon continued with the words, “how much better is your love” or “to what exceedingly greater, more pleasant and favorable delight exists your, the bride's, extreme affection and appetite” “than wine” which means “compared to effervescent and fermented fruit of the vine”! “and the smell of your ointments” or “and the scent, fragrance, aroma and odor belonging to your, the bride's, medicaments or unguents used for anointing” “than all spices” which means “compared to each, every, the whole and everyone of the balsam trees or plants and fragrances of sweet smelling odor”. Solomon shared how the groom told the bride her extreme affection and appetite for him excelled any effervescent fruit of the vine, and the scent of her perfume exceeded every other sweet smelling fragrance available.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the groom continued to rave over the beauty of his bride's “love” which he considered to be greater than fermented fruit of the vine, and her perfume and scent exceeded every other spice and ointment available. The groom was enamored with his bride, and God is enamored with us. He loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins so when we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to enjoy His loving companionship for all eternity.

Next time Solomon shares how the groom says, your lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
