God Sore Displeased - Zechariah 1:2

The book of Zechariah was written to the people of Israel who left off building the temple of Jehovah God after they returned from being captives in Babylon for seventy years, and in chapter one and verse one of Zechariah, Zechariah wrote, “In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying, ...”, and in chapter one and verse two of Zechariah, Zechariah said, “the LORD has been sore displeased with your fathers” where we read,

The LORD has been sore displeased with your fathers.

The verse reads, The LORD has been sore displeased .... Zechariah began with the words, “the LORD” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “has been sore displeased” which means “has existed as enraged, angry and filled with wrath”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God was exceedingly angry with the following.

The verse goes on to say, “... with your fathers.” Zechariah continues with the words, “with your fathers” or “with your, the people of Israel's, male ancestors, progenitors, heads and founders of a household”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God was enraged with the male ancestors of Israel.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how Jehovah God was angry with the forefathers of the people of Israel. God continuously called upon the people of Israel to follow Him, obey Him and to have Him as their LORD God. However, they turned away from Him and worshiped and served other gods instead. This caused Jehovah God to be enraged, and He was also upset with the people of Israel during Zechariah's time who had forsaken Him and the rebuilding of the temple. God constantly gives an invitation for all people to “turn to Him” through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of everyone. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and stay His anger, however, should we refuse His offer, woe be to us for the anger He will display.

Next time Zechariah says, “turn to me, says the LORD of hosts”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
