Make Haste, My Beloved - Song of Songs 8:14

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said, “you that dwell in the gardens, the companions hearken to your voice: cause me to hear it”, and in chapter eight and verse fourteen of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “make haste, my beloved” where we read,

Make haste, my beloved, and be you like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.

The verse reads, Make haste, my beloved, ... Solomon began with the words, “make haste” or “come away, take flight and hurry away”, “my beloved” which means “my, the bride's, well-loved groom”. Solomon shared how the bride invited the groom to quickly come and hurry away.

The verse goes on to say, “... and be you like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.” Solomon continued with the words, “and be you like a roe” or “and exist, you, the groom, similar and in likeness to a roebuck or gazelle” “or to a young hart” which means “or to a youthful stag or deer” “upon the mountains” or “on the risings above the plain or hill country” “of spices” which means “with the sweet odor of balsam perfume”. Solomon shared how the bride called upon the groom to exist similar to a roebuck or youthful deer on the hill country accompanied by balsam perfume. (See Song of Songs 2:17)

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover how Solomon concluded this story with the bride calling upon her well-loved groom once again to hurry and act similar to the roebuck and youthful deer that ran and jumped on the mountain ranges which were filled with balsam spices. The groom was set free, and the bride was free to enjoy Him. This is how God wants it to be for us as we relate to Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to spend all eternity enjoying His company as He enjoys ours.

Next time we begin a new book – the book of Zechariah, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
