In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said to the bride, “Your head upon you is like Carmel, and the hair of your head like purple; the king is held in the galleries. How fair and how pleasant are you, O love, for delights!”, and in chapter seven and verse seven of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said, “this your stature is like to a palm tree” where we read,
This your stature is like to a palm tree, and your breasts to clusters of grapes.
The verse reads, “This your stature is like to a palm tree, ...” Solomon began with the words, “this your stature” or “your, the bride's, height, esteem and respect” “is like to a palm tree” which means “exists similar and in likeness to a tree that bears date palms”. Solomon shared how the groom said the esteem and respect of the bride was similar to a tall tree that bears date palms.
The verse goes on to say, “... and your breasts to clusters of grapes.” Solomon continued with the words, “and your breasts” which means “and your, the bride's, bosoms” “to clusters of grapes” or “exists similar and in likeness to agglomeration or bunches of fruit known as grapes”. Solomon shared how the bosom of the bride was similar to bunches of “grapes”.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the groom continued to speak well of the bride as he described the honor and respect she received as being similar to a tall tree that bears dates, and her bosom was similar to a bunch of “grapes”. In other words, she was attractive in reputation and physical beauty. The groom loved the bride, and when we consider that God loves us and proved it by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, we have the opportunity to receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”. When we humble ourselves and yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and continually improve our lives both in reputation and beauty with Him that shall last forever and ever.
Next time Solomon shares how the groom says, “I will go up to the palm tree” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
