In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if you find my beloved, that you tell him, that I am sick of love”, and in chapter five and verse nine of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the daughters of Jerusalem asked, “what is your beloved more than another beloved?” where we read,
What is your beloved more than another beloved, O you fairest among women?
What is your beloved more than another beloved, that you do so charge us?
The verse begins, “What is your beloved more than another beloved, O you fairest among women?” Solomon began with the words, “what is your beloved” or “whatever kind of person exists your, the bride's, well-loved groom” “more than another beloved” which means “to a greater and more abundant degree compared to one other well-loved person”, “O you fairest among women” or “O you, the bride, more beautiful, comely, goodly and pleasant in the midst and middle of female human beings”? Solomon shared how the daughters of Jerusalem questioned the extremely goodly, comely and beautiful bride as to what it was that made her well-loved groom to exceed all other well loved people.
The verse continues, “What is your beloved more than another beloved, that you do so charge us?” Solomon added the words, “what is your beloved” or “whatever kind of person exists your, the bride's, well-loved groom” “more than another beloved” which means “to a greater and more abundant degree compared to one other well-loved person”, “that you do so charge us” or “so that you, the bride, even and indeed adjure and cause us, the daughters of Jerusalem, to take an oath and swear”? Solomon shared how the daughters of Jerusalem repeated their question about what made the bride's well-loved groom to exceed all other well loved people as they added the idea of her causing them to swear and take an oath according to her request.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the daughters of Jerusalem were added as part of this story once again, and this time they wondered what made the bride's well-loved groom to be greater than any other. She instructed them to tell the groom how lovesick she was for him in case they saw him, and now they were interested in what made her groom so special. God wants to have a personal intimate relationship with us that not only causes us to come to Him, but so others are attracted to Him as well. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit so that our lives draw others to Him as they discover our fellowship with Him.
Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, “my beloved is white and ruddy” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
