In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said to the bride, “Turn away your eyes from me, for they have overcome me: your hair is as a flock of goats that appear from Gilead”, and in chapter six and verse six of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said, “your teeth are as a flock of sheep” where we read,
Your teeth are as a flock of sheep which go up from the washing,
whereof every one bears twins, and there is not one barren among them.
The verse begins, “Your teeth are as a flock of sheep which go up from the washing, ...” Solomon began with the words, “your teeth” or “your, the bride's, lex talionis or ivory teeth within her mouth” “are as a flock of sheep” which means “ exist similar and in likeness to a herd, arrangement or loitering group of small cattle known as sheep” “which go up from the washing” or “that arise and ascend separate and apart from the bathing place”. Solomon shared how the groom said the bride's teeth were similar to a group of “sheep” that had freshly come from being washed. (See Song of Songs 4:2)
The verse goes on to say, “... whereof every one bears twins, and there is not one barren among them.” Solomon continued with the words, “whereof every one” or “in the which, each, the whole, all and everyone of the teeth are doubled and duplicated” “bears twins” which means “”, “and there is not one barren among them” or “and not one of the bride's teeth are bereaved or missing”. Solomon shared how the bride repeated the idea that the bride's “teeth” were not missing or bereaved. (See Song of Songs 4:2)
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the groom continued to describe the bride as he spoke of all the beautiful whitened teeth in her mouth in which none of them were missing. This is a detail about the bride that the groom not only acknowledged, but also admired before her. He loved her, and the finest detail was important to him. God loves us, and He knows every detail about us. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us an understanding of how detailed He is in our love for us and how He desires that we love Him the same.
Next time Solomon shares how the groom says, “a piece of a pomegranate are your temples” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
