The Bride Opens to Her Beloved - Song of Songs 5:6

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom invited the bride to come away with him, and the bride said, “I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands dropped with myrrh, and my fingers with sweet smelling myrrh, upon the handles of the lock”, and in chapter five and verse six of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, I opened to my beloved where we read,

I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone: my soul failed when he spoke:

I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.

The verse begins, I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone: my soul failed when he spoke: Solomon began with the words, “I opened to my beloved” or “I, the bride, let loose and free toward my, the bride's, well-loved groom”; “but my beloved” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover my, the bride's, well loved groom” “had withdrawn himself” or “had vacillated and turned away his own self”, “and was gone” which means “and existed as departed, passed on and alienated”: “my soul failed” or “my, the bride's, heart, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections existed, proceeded and went forth” “when he spoke” which means “at the time and moment he, the groom, uttered, declared and made proclamations”. Solomon shared how the bride finally “opened” the door to her well-loved groom, however, he departed and was no longer there even though her heart, mind and will went forth when he called for her.

The verse goes on to say, I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer. Solomon continued with the words, “I sought him” or “I, the bride, searched, looked for and desired him, the groom”, “but I could not find him” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover I, the bride, was unable to attain, acquire and discover him, the groom”; “I called him” or “I, summoned, invited and cried out to him, the groom”, “but he gave me no answer” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover he, the groom, did not respond or pay heed to me, the bride”. Solomon shared how the bride said she looked for the groom, however, she was unable to discover where he was. She cried out to him, but he did not respond.

When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the bride finally decided to “open the door” to the groom, however, he left. She was moved in her emotions when she heard his voice, but when she attempted to respond and cry out to him, he was unable to be found. God gives every person an invitation to receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we respond to Him through belief and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us through His Holy Spirit the value of responding to Him and hearing His voice when He speaks.

Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, the watchmen that went about the city found me so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
