A Head Like Most Fine Gold - Song of Songs 5:11

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said“my beloved is white and ruddy, the chief among ten thousand”, and in chapter five and verse eleven of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, his head is as the most fine gold where we read,

His head is as the most fine gold, his locks are bushy, and black as a raven.

The verse begins, His head is as the most fine gold, ... Solomon began with the words, “his head” or “his, the groom's, crown, top, summit and upper part of his body” “is as the most fine gold” which means “exists similar and in likeness to refined and pure gold metal”. Solomon shared how the bride considered the “head” of her well-loved groom to be similar to pure and refined gold metal.

The verse continues, ... his locks are bushy, and black as a raven. Solomon added the words, “his locks are bushy” or “his, the groom's, locks of his hair exist as wavy and curly”, “and black as a raven” which means “and jetty, dusky and dark similar and in likeness to the raven bird which has a dusky hue”. Solomon shared how the bride spoke of the locks of the hair of the groom being wavy and dark as the black hue on a “raven bird”.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon about more of the traits the bride saw in the groom. His “head” was likened to pure and refined gold metal, and the locks of his hair were not only wavy and curly, but they also consisted of a dark hue similar to a “raven” bird. The bride is employing poetic language to describe her groom, and because she loved him, she admired his “head and hair”. God wants us to love Him intimately as well, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, we have an opportunity to have our sins forgiven, be granted everlasting life and to become as much of an admirer of Him as He is of us.

Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, his eyes are as the eyes of doves so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
