Beloved Putting His Hand in the Door - Song of Songs 5:4

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom invited the bride to come away with him, and the bride responded, “I sleep, but my heart wakes: it is the voice of my beloved that knocks, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night. I have put off my coat; how shall I put it on? I have washed my feet; how shall I defile them?, and in chapter five and verse four of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, my beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door where we read,

My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, and my bowels were moved for him.

The verse begins, My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, ... Solomon began with the words, “my beloved” or “my, well-loved, groom” “put in his hand” which means “stretched out, thrust and extended his, the groom's, physical hand” “by the hole of the door” or “through the latch-opening belonging to the door”. Solomon shared how the bride knew the groom extended his physical hand to unlatch the door where she was located.

The verse goes on to say, ... and my bowels were moved for him. Solomon continued with the words, “and my bowels”or “and my, the bride's, internal organs, parts, belly and places of emotions” “were moved for him” which means “became disquieted, moved, boisterous and stirred on behalf of him, the groom”. Solomon shared how the bride was emotionally moved for the groom when he attempted to unlatch her door.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the bride knew the groom was attempting to see her, and even though she was moved within her emotions, she did not open the door. Many people are like that today. They never open the door to their heart to receive the Lord Jesus. John the apostle recorded Jesus' words when He said, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” (See Revelation 3:20) Jesus came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to “open the door” every time He desires to come in.

Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, I rose up to open to my beloved, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
