In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the daughters of Jerusalem asked the bride, “Where is your beloved gone, O you fairest among women? where is your beloved turned aside? that we may seek him with you”, and in chapter six and verse two of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “my beloved is gone down into his garden”where we read,
My beloved is gone down into his garden,
to the beds of spices,to feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies.
The verse begins, “My beloved is gone down into his garden, ...” Solomon began with the words, “my beloved” or “my, the bride's, well-loved groom” “is gone down” which means “has descended and come” “into his garden” or “in his, the groom's, planted plot or field”. Solomon shared how the bride told the daughters of Jerusalem that her well-loved groom had descended to his planted field.
The verse goes on to say, “... to the beds of spices, to feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies.” Solomon continued with the words, “to the beds of spices” or “toward the garden terraces or parterres with balsam or perfume with a pleasant odor, aroma and fragrance”, “to feed in the gardens” which means “to graze and be nourished within the planted plots or fields”, “and to gather lilies” or “and to pick, glean and collect Shoshannim or trumpet and tubular shaped flowers of architectural ornament”. Solomon shared how the bride told the daughters of Jerusalem that her well-loved groom departed to the garden terraces to be nourished with the plants within them and to collect “lily” flowers.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the bride told the daughters of Jerusalem that her groom departed to his planted field where there were garden terraces with balsam, and he picked “lily” flowers there. The daughters of Jerusalem wanted to join the bride's search for the groom, however, she knew where he was. He was gathering produce from his garden, which is very similar to what Jesus will do when He returns for His church. (See John 15:16) God loves us, and His desire is to have a personal intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we surrender our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us through His Holy Spirit to produce “fruit that remains” within our lives.
Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, “I am by beloved's, and my beloved is mine” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
