In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom invited the bride to come away with him, and when she refused, she began to look for him but did not find him and said, “the watchmen that went about the city found me, they smote me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took away my veil from me.”, and in chapter five and verse eight of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “I am sick of love” where we read,
I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if you find my beloved, that you tell him, that I am sick of love.
The verse begins, “I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if you find my beloved, ...” Solomon began with the words, “I charge you” or “I, the bride, adjure and swear to you female offspring in Jerusalem”, “O daughters of Jerusalem” which means “O female offspring and progeny belonging to Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and is the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”, “if you find my beloved” or “whether and in case you, daughters of Jerusalem, attain, secure, encounter and discover my, the bride's, well-loved groom”. Solomon shared how the bride adjured the female offspring of “Jerusalem” in case they discovered her well-loved groom that they do the following.
The verse goes on to say, “... that you tell him, that I am sick of love.” Solomon continued with the words, “that you tell him” or “that you, daughters of Jerusalem, declare, make known, inform and expound to him, the groom”, “that I am sick of love” which means “that I, the bride, exist as weak, ill and grieved with love”. Solomon shared how the bride adjured the “daughters of Jerusalem” that in case they found the groom they would inform him that she was lovesick.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the bride was lovesick over the groom, and in case the “daughters of Jerusalem” discovered where he was located, they were to inform him of her weakness. God wants us to be “lovesick” for Him, and because He so dearly loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a passion to be in His company like this lovesick bride for all eternity.
Next time Solomon shares how the daughters of Jerusalem ask, “what is your beloved more than another beloved?” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
