In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride and groom or the bride's brothers said, “We have a little sister, and she has no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for? If she be a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver: and if she be a door, we will inclose her with boards of cedar”, and in chapter eight and verse ten of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “I am a wall” where we read,
I am a wall, and my breasts like towers: then was I in his eyes as one that found favor.
The verse reads, “I am a wall, and my breasts like towers:” Solomon began with the words, “I am a wall” or “I, the bride, exist as a protective structure”, “and my breasts like towers” which means “and my, the bride's, bosoms exist similar and in likeness to an elevated stage, pulpit or raised bed”. Solomon shared how the bride considered herself to be a protective structure such as a virgin and that her bosoms were fully developed similar to an elevated stage.
The verse goes on to say, “then was I in his eyes as one that found favor.” Solomon continued with the words, “then was I in his eyes” or “at that time I, the bride, existed within his, the groom's, physical eyes and sight” “as one that found favor” which means “similar and in likeness to a person who attained, secured, acquired and discovered completeness, soundness, welfare, peace and safety”. Solomon shared how the bride knew she secured soundness, peace and safety within the sight of the groom.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the bride described her own manner of living as she likened herself to a protective wall. She kept herself pure for the groom, and because she did, she received safety and soundness in his “eyes”. God wants us to relate to Him in a pure and righteous manner, and because we have sin in our lives, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and cleanse us from all unrighteousness so we live in His “favor”and as a protective “wall” before Him.
Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, “Solomon had a vineyard at Baalhamon” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
