Behold King Solomon with the Crown - Song of Songs 3:11

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared about the wedding and how the bride said, “King Solomon made himself a chariot of the wood of Lebanon. He made the pillars thereof of silver, the bottom thereof of gold, the covering of it of purple, the midst thereof being paved with love, for the daughters of Jerusalem”, and in chapter three and verse eleven of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the daughters of Jerusalem said, “behold king Solomon with the crown” where we read,

Go forth, O you daughters of Zion,

and behold king Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him

in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart.

The verse begins, Go forth, O you daughters of Zion, ... Solomon began with the words, “go forth” or “exit, proceed and depart”, “O you daughters” which means “O you, female offspring and progeny” “of Zion” or “belonging to Zion whose name means parched place and is another name for Jerusalem especially in the prophetic books”. Solomon shared how the bride instructed the female offspring belonging to “Zion” to depart and leave to do the following.

The verse continues, ... and behold king Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him ... Solomon added the words, “and behold king Solomon” or “and look and consider the royal ruler and leader Solomon whose name means peace and was the son of David by Bathsheba and the third king of Israel” “with the crown” which means “accompanied by and wearing the coronal symbol” “wherewith his mother crowned him” or “which his, Solomon's, immediate female progenitor and ancestor coronated him, Solomon”. Solomon shared how the bride instructed the “daughters of Zion” to look upon the royal ruler “Solomon” who was adorned with the coronal symbol that his mother gave to him.

Finally the verse says, “... in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart.” Solomon concluded this verse with the words, “in the day” or “within the division or period of time” “of his espousals” which means “pertaining to his, Solomon's, wedding alliance or day of his marriage”, “and in the day” or “and within the division or period of time” “of the gladness of his heart” which means “pertaining to the joy, mirth and pleasure belonging to his, Solomon's, soul, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and passions”. Solomon ended this verse by continuing to shared the bride's instruction to the “daughters of Zion” to notice “Solomon” within the time period of his wedding and the happiness which was in his soul.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the bride wanted the “daughters of Zion”to notice “Solomon” in all his pomp and glory as he rode in on his well-adorned chariot and was wearing the royal “crown” given to him by his mother. This was the day of “Solomon's” wedding, and his heart, soul and mind were filled with joy and gaiety. Jesus will be this way as well when He returns to receive His “bride, the church” that is assembled with all the people who have humbled themselves before Him, repented of their sins, acknowledged that He died on the cross for their errors and wrongs and received Him as “Savior and Lord”. (See John 14:1-6) God loves us, and He knows when the wedding day shall be. We should look for Him, wait for Him and be ready for Him whenever He arrives with splendor and glory as the Husband of the Bride, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Solomon share how the groom repeats his phrase, Behold, you are fair, my love; behold, you are fair so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
