A Ravished Heart - Song of Songs 4:9

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said to the bride, “Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions' dens, from the mountains of the leopards”, and in chapter four and verse nine of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said to the bride, you have ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse where we read,

You have ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse;

you have ravished my heart with one of your eyes, with one chain of your neck.

The verse begins, You have ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse; Solomon began with the words, “you have ravished my heart” or “you, the bride, have encouraged, stultified, stolen and captured my, the groom's, soul, mind, will, desire, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections”, “my sister” which means “my, the groom's, intimate companion”, “my spouse” or “my, the groom's, bride”. Solomon shared how the groom told his intimate companion and bride that she captured his “heart”.

The verse continues, you have ravished my heart with one of your eyes, with one chain of your neck. Solomon continued with the words, “you have ravished my heart” or “you, the bride, have encouraged, stultified, stolen and captured my, the groom's, soul, mind, will, desire, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections” “with one of your eyes” which means “by the use of a single one of your, the bride's, physical eyes”, “with one chain of your neck”or “by the use of a single necklace or neck-pendant on your, the bride's, neck of her body”. Solomon shared how the groom repeated the idea that the bride captured his “heart” and added that she employed one of her “eyes” and the necklace around her “neck” to do so.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon just how stricken the groom was with his bride. She simply looked at him with one of her “eyes” and only one of necklaces around her neck drew him to her. He was enamored with her, and his desire was to be with her. God desires to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a His Holy Spirit whereby we capture His love for all eternity.

Next time Solomon shares how the groom says, how fair is your love, my sister, my spouse so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
