In the book of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how, “the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem, and on the cities of Judah, against which you have had indignation these threescore and ten years?”, and in chapter one and verse thirteen of Zechariah, Zechariah shared how, “the LORD answered the angel … with good words” where we read,
And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me
with good words and comfortable words.
The verse reads, “And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me ...” Zechariah began with the words, “and the LORD” or “and Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “answered the angel” which means “began to speak and responded to His messenger and envoy” “that talked with me” or “who spoke, declared and conversed with me, Zechariah”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God responded to His “envoy” who spoke with Zechariah.
The verse continues, “... with good words and comfortable words.”. Zechariah added the words, “with good words” or “by the use of pleasant, agreeable, excellent and valuable speeches, declarations and proclamations” “and comfortable words” which means “and consoling and compassionate speeches, sayings, utterances and messages”. Zechariah shared how Jehovah God responded to the “envoy” who spoke to Zechariah by the use of consoling and compassionate utterances and sayings.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Zechariah how the “messenger” who spoke with Zechariah and Jehovah God were having a conversation, and God was using pleasant speeches to bring comfort to him. God is good, merciful and loving, and He desires to have a personal intimate relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us an understanding of His pleasant and comfortable words.
Next time Zechariah shared how the LORD says, “I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
