Return, Return O Shulamite - Song of Songs 6:13

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “I went down into the garden of nuts to see the fruits of the valley, and to see whether the vine flourished, and the pomegranates budded. Or ever I was aware, my soul made me like the chariots of Amminadib”, and in chapter six and verse thirteen of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom and his friends say, “return, return, O Shulamite” where we read,

Return, return, O Shulamite; return, return, that we may look upon you.

What will you see in the Shulamite? As it were the company of two armies.

The verse begins, Return, return, O Shulamite; return, return, that we may look upon you. Solomon began with the words, “return, return” or “turn back, turn back”, “O Shulamite” which means “O Shulamite whose name means the perfect or peaceful”; “return, return” or “turn back, turn back”, “that we may look upon you” which means”so we, the groom and his friends, might behold, perceive and have vision of you, the bride”. Solomon shared how the groom and his friends repeatedly called upon the bride to turn back so they could behold her, and we learned how she was a “Shulamite”whose name means “the perfect and peaceful”.

The verse goes on to say, What will you see in the Shulamite? As it were the company of two armies. Solomon continued with the words, “what will you see” or “whatsoever shall you, the groom and his friends, behold, perceive and have vision of” “in the Shulamite” which means “within the “Shulamite whose name means the perfect or peaceful”? “As it were the company” or “that the bride is similar and in likeness to dancing to graceful and beautiful songs” “of two armies” which means “belonging to two encampments, hosts or bodies of people”. Solomon shared how the bride questioned “what” the groom and his friends would observe in her as she stated that it would be similar to the dancing of two encampments.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the groom and his friends wanted the bride to turn back so they could observe her, and she asked what they thought they would behold in her. She told them it would be like watching two encampments dancing. In other words, those who watched her would be greatly entertained by her beauty. Oh how God desires for us turn to Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and make us so beautiful others will desire to observe our lives.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Solomon share how the groom exclaims to the bride, “how beautiful are your feet with shoes so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
