In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said, “A garden enclosed is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed”, and in chapter four and verse thirteen of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom said, “your plants are an orchard of pomegranates” where we read,
Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; camphire, with spikenard,
The verse begins, “Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits;” Solomon began with the words, “your plants” or “your, the bride's, branches, shoots and sprouts” “are an orchard of pomegranates” which means “exist as an enclosed, preserved garden or forest containing upright pomegranates”, “with pleasant fruits” or “beside and alongside excellent and precious bough or produce”. Solomon shared how the groom considered the sprouts and shoots of the bride to be similar to a preserved garden of pomegranate fruit alongside delicious produce.
The verse continues, “camphire, with spikenard,” Solomon added the word, “camphire” or “henna plant”, “with spikenard” which means “beside and alongside nard which is an odoriferous aromatic plant from India”. Solomon shared how the groom included the henna plant alongside nard to exist within the “orchard” of the bride.
When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the groom continued to speak of the attributes of the bride. Her “plants” (and some interpret this to be her thighs) were filled with “pomegranate” and other produces as well as “henna plant” and “nard”. In other words, the bride's “garden” was filled with the most choice produce and spices, and which were watered by the “springs and fountains” in the midst of it. God provides the best for His bride, the church, and anyone who yields to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of the whole world, will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and be abundantly supplied according His riches in glory. (See Philippians 4:19)
Next time Solomon shares how the groom adds, “spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
