In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “My vineyard, which is mine, is before me: you, O Solomon, must have a thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred”, and in chapter eight and verse thirteen of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the groom spoke to, “you that dwell in the gardens” where we read,
You that dwell in the gardens, the companions hearken to your voice: cause me to hear it.
The verse reads, “You that dwell in the gardens, the companions hearken to your voice:” Solomon began with the words, “you that dwell in the gardens” or “you, the bride, who lives, abides and makes her habitation within the fenced in plots or fields of plants”, “the companions” which means “the associates, fellows, worshipers and friends in attendance” “hearken to your voice” or “hear, listen, attend and are inclined to your, the bride's, sound and noise of uttered words”. Solomon shared how the groom mentioned that the bride lived in the planted field and her friends were able to listen to the sound and noise of her uttered words.
The verse continues, “cause me to hear it.” Solomon added the words, “cause me” or “help, make and give power to me, ” “to hear it” which means “to listen to, perceive by ear and obey the sound and noise of the bride's uttered words”. Solomon shared how the groom also desired to be able to listen to the bride's sound of uttered words.
When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the groom knew the dwelling place of the bride was in the planted fields, and when she spoke, her associates and friends heard her speak. He wanted to hear her too, and he solicited her to help him do so. God loves when we speak to Him, and when we listen either to His word or His still small voice, we hear Him as well. God demonstrated His love toward us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to speak to Him and to listen when He utters His words.
Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, “make haste, my beloved” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
