In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said to the groom, “Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned”, and in chapter eight and verse eight of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride and groom or the bride's brothers said, “we have a little sister” where we read,
We have a little sister, and she has no breasts:
what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?
The verse reads, “We have a little sister, and she has no breasts:” Solomon began with the words, “we have a little sister” or “we, the bride and groom or the brothers of the bride, possess a younger female sibling”, “and she has no breasts” which means “and she, the younger female sibling, does not have developed bosoms”. Solomon shared how the bride and groom or the brothers of the bride enter the story and speak of their undeveloped younger “sister”.
The verse goes on to say, “what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?” Solomon continued with the words, “what shall we do” or “whatever will we, the bride's brothers, fashion, accomplish and produce” “for our sister” which means “on behalf of our younger female sibling” “in the day” or “within the time period or season” “when she shall be spoken for” which means “at the time and moment she, the younger female sibling, will exist as declared, promised and able to speak to another”? Solomon shared how the bride and groom or the brothers of the bride wondered whatsoever they would fashion on behalf of their younger female sibling at the time she is able to speak for herself and be made available for courtship.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how either the bride and groom or the brothers of the bride shared about their younger undeveloped “sister”, and they wondered what they would fashion for her at the time she was ready for courtship. We shall see their answer in the next verse, but for now let us consider that their thoughts have moved from their own relationship to their “younger female sibling”. This is the natural progression to having a personal relationship with God through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of the world. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a passion not only for Him, but also for others so we care for their eternity in the same way that we do our own.
Next time Solomon shares how the bride and groom or the bride's brothers say, “we will build upon her a palace of silver” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
