In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride and groom or the bride's brothers said, “We have a little sister, and she has no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?”, and in chapter eight and verse nine of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride and groom or the bride's brothers said, “we will build upon her a palace of silver” where we read,
If she be a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver:
and if she be a door, we will inclose her with boards of cedar.
The verse reads, “If she be a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver:” Solomon began with the words, “if she be a wall” or “whether and in case she, the younger sister, exists as a protective structure”, “we will build upon her” which means “we, the bride and groom or the bride's brothers, shall erect and construct on her, the younger sister” “a palace of silver” or “an encampment, dwelling place or battlement made with silver metal”. Solomon shared how the bride and groom or the bride's brothers would construct a silver metal dwelling place on their younger sister if she lived in a reserved and protective manner.
The verse continues, “and if she be a door, we will inclose her with boards of cedar.” Solomon added the words, “and if she be a door” or “and whether she, the younger sister, exists as a gate or easily accessible woman”, “we will inclose her” which means “we, the bride and groom or the bride's brothers, shall confine, shut in and secure her, the younger sister” “with boards of cedar” or “by the use of timbers, sheets and planks, belonging to and constructed from the cedar tree”. Solomon shared how the bride and groom or the bride's brothers said they would confine and secure their younger sister with timbers from the “cedar tree” if she was promiscuous, easily accessible and open to anyone coming into her.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the bride and groom or the bride's brothers would manage the life of their younger sister by the way she behaved. If she was constrained and protective over herself, they would erect a silver metal dwelling place over her, however, if she lived a loose and promiscuous lifestyle, they would secure her with planks from a cedar tree. O how often God does the same for people. He gives everyone the opportunity to receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and receive Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and build a wonderful structure over us that shall last for all eternity. If we refuse and reject Him and live in an indiscriminate lifestyle, we shall reap of the seed we have sown. Let all who read these words yield to Him and live in a manner that is pleasing to Him and beneficial to us.
Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, “I am a wall” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
