In Psalms chapter sixty nine David said, “O God, you know my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from you. Let not them that wait on you, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek you be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel”, and in chapter sixty-nine and verse seven of Psalms David said, “because for your sake I have borne reproach” where we read,
Because for your sake I have borne reproach; shame has covered my face.
The verse begins, “Because for your sake I have borne reproach;” David began with the words, “Because for your sake” or “since and on account that on behalf of your, Jehovah God's, account” “I have borne reproach” which means “I, David, have borne, carried and sustained taunting and scorn”. David said he suffered taunting and scorn on account of God's cause.
The verse continues, “shame has covered my face.” David added the words, “shame has covered” or “disgrace, confusion, dishonor, insult and ignominy has clothed over, hidden and concealed” “my face” which means “my, David's, countenance, surface and presence”. David said his countenance was concealed with disgrace and dishonor because He aligned with Jehovah God.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David believed that He suffered for Jehovah God's cause, and this should be the reason his people were not humiliated and disappointed when they were searching for and in expectation of Him. God loved David, and yet, David suffered reproach and scorn. Just because we align ourselves with God does not guarantee that we will be exempt from taunting and scorn from others. Jesus was perfect, and He suffered these things as well, but He endured them even unto the cross so that we may be forgiven of our sins and granted everlasting life with Him. (See Hebrews 12:2) When we believe in Jesus, we may suffer for a while, but we shall gain eternal life with Him where we shall worship and give Him praise forever and ever. (See Psalm 30:5)
Next time David says, “I am become a stranger unto my brethren”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
