Singers and Instruments - Psalms 68:25

In Psalms chapter sixty eight David said, “The Lord said, I will bring again from Bashan, I will bring my people again from the depths of the sea. That your foot may be dipped in the blood of your enemies, and the tongue of your dogs in the same. They have seen your goings, O God; even the goings of my God, my King, in the sanctuary”, and in chapter sixty-eight and verse twenty-five of Psalms David said, “the singers went before, the players on instruments” where we read,

The singers went before, the players on instruments followed after;

among them were the damsels playing with timbrels.

The verse begins, The singers went before, the players on instruments followed after; David began with the words, “the singers went before” or “the people who use their voices to make music with the idea of strolling minstrelsy advanced, lead beforehand and preceded”, “the players on instruments” which means “the people who beat a tune with their fingers and made melodies and music upon musical instruments” “followed after” or “came behind, afterwards and to the hinder part”. David said people who made music with their voices preceded others who made melodies upon instruments.

The verse goes on to say,among them were the damsels playing with timbrels. David continued with the words, “among them” or “alongside and with the singers and instrumentalist” “were the damsels” which means “accompanied the young maids, marriageable and virgin women” “playing with timbrels” or “beating a sound or drums on tambourines”. David said young women accompanied the
“singers and players on instruments” and tapped upon tambourines as they walked with them.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the praise and worship team went first into the sacred place of Jehovah God. (See 2 Chronicles 20:21-23) Worship of Jehovah God is a priority because acknowledging Him as the Creator and Almighty God humbles us to realize He is over everything. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to join the worship team as we give praise, honor and glory to Him.

Next time David says, “bless you God in the congregation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
