In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “because of the savor of your good ointments your name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love you”, and in chapter one and verse four of Song of Songs Solomon shared how the bride said, “draw me, we will run after you” where we read,
Draw me, we will run after you: the king has brought me into his chambers:
we will be glad and rejoice in you, we will remember your love more than wine: the upright love you.
The verse begins, “Draw me, we will run after you: the king has brought me into his chambers:” Solomon began with the words, “draw me” or “drag, seize, lead along and attract me, the bride”, “we will run after you” which means “we, the daughters or young women of Jerusalem shall pursue, swiftly move and and hurry to follow you, the bride”: “the king” or “the royal ruler, leader and authority” “has brought me” which means “caused to enter and come into me, the bride” “into his chambers” or “in to his, the groom's, parlor or innermost part or bed”. Solomon shared how the bride called upon the groom to attract her to him, and the young women of Jerusalem shared how they would follow her. Then the bride spoke of the royal ruler leading her into his parlor or bedchamber.
The verse continues, “we will be glad and rejoice in you, we will remember your love more than wine: the upright love you.” Solomon added the words, “we will be glad” or “we, the daughters or young women of Jerusalem shall exist as exulting, rejoicing and spinning around with joy” “and rejoice in you” which means “and be happy and joyful within you, the bride”, “we will remember your love” or “we, the daughters and young women of Jerusalem shall recall, call to mind and make a memorial according to your, strong affection and appetite” “more than wine” which means “to a greater and more abundant degree than the effervescent fruit of the vine such as a grape”: “the upright” or “the straight and equitable people” “love you” which means “have strong affection and appetite for you, the bride”. Solomon shared how the young women of Jerusalem said they would join the bride in her joy, and they promised to bring to mind her strong affection which was greater than the fruit of the vine such as grapes even as people who are equitable and straight. (See John 6:44;12:32; James 4:8)
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the bride desired to be “drawn” in by the groom, and afterward the young women of Jerusalem shared how they would follow after her. She told how the groom brought her into his parlor, and this caused them to spin around with joy and recall her love to a greater degree than fermented fruit of the vine which would cause people who are straight right and just to have strong affection for her as well. God loves people even as this groom loved his bride. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of His drawing us to Him so we can return His “love”, receive Him as our “groom” and have others be attracted to Him through the love that He demonstrates in and through our lives.
Next time Solomon shares how the bride says, “I am black, but comely”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
