In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “My beloved is mine, and I am his. He feeds his flock among the lilies. Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be you like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether”, and in chapter three and verse one of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “by night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves” where we read,
By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves:
I sought him, but I found him not.
The verse begins, “By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves:” Solomon began with the words, “by night on my bed” or “at nighttime upon my lying down place, bier or couch” “I sought him” which means “I, the bride, required, desired, requested and looked for him, the groom” “whom my soul loves” or “that my, the bride's, heart, mind, will, desire, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and passions has great affection and appetite”. Solomon shared how the bride looked for her groom that she “loved” with all her heart, mind and will as she relined upon her lying place.
The verse goes on to say, “I sought him, but I found him not.” Solomon continued with the words, “I sought him” or “I, the bride, required, desired, requested and looked for him, the groom”, “but I found him not” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover I, the bride, did not discover, attain, secure or encounter the groom”. Solomon shared how the bride repeated the idea of looking for her well-loved groom, however, she was unable to discover where he was located.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the bride began to seek for her well-loved groom as she reclined upon her couch, and even though she looked everywhere, she was unable to find him. There are times when God seems to be off the scene, and even as the groom sought to have the bride come away with him, she now wanted to be with him, but he was no where to be found. God is always with us, but we are not always aware of His presence. He loves us, and He proved His love toward us when He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him within our hearts and confess Him with our mouths, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to know He is with us even when we do not sense that He is. (See Romans 10:9-10)
Next time the bride says, “I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
