The Flowers Appear on the Earth - Song of Songs 2:12

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “my beloved spoke, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone”, and in chapter two and verse twelve of Song of Songs Solomon shared how the groom said, the flowers appear on the earth where we read,

The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come,

and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;

The verse begins, The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, ... Solomon began with the words, “the flowers appear” or “the blossoms are perceived, regarded, observed and seen” “on the earth” which means “upon the land, country, territory, district and region”; “the time of the singing of birds” or “the occurrence and season pertaining to musical sounds and noises of the flying fowls” “is come” which means “has arrived and been attained”. Solomon shared how the groom told the bride the blossoms are observed throughout the land, and the season for the flying fowls to make musical sounds had arrived.

The verse goes on to say, ... and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; Solomon continued with the words, “and the voice of the turtle” or “and the sound and noise belonging to the ring-dove or turtledove” “is heard” which means “exists as perceived, listened to and discerned” “in our land” or “within our, the groom and the bride's, country, territory, district and region”. Solomon shared how the groom added that the turtledove's sound and noise could be perceived and discerned within their district and region.

When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the groom continued to add to the reasons the bride should rise up and join him. Winter was passed, the rains were gone, the “flowers” were blooming, the birds were singing and even the turtledove was producing it's sound. In other words, the timing was perfect for the bride to join her groom. We shall see the groom add more to this list, but for now let us put our attention on the idea that the groom is attempting to convince the bride that she should go away with him. God knows what this is like. Every day He presents us with reason after reason that we should “go away” with Him, and when we realize He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins so we can be forgiven and receive eternal life with Him, we should surrender ourselves to Him and let Him take us wherever He desires. God loves us, and He waits for everyone to receive His invitation right away because the timing is now, and the timing is right.

Next time Solomon shares how the groom says, the fig tree puts forth her green figs, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
