The Rose of Sharon - Song of Songs 2:1

In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride and groom said, “behold, you are fair, my love; behold, you art fair; you have doves' eyes. Behold, you are fair, my beloved, yes, pleasant: also our bed is green. The beams of our house are cedar, and our rafters of fir”, and in chapter two and verse one of Song of Songs Solomon shared how the bride said, I am the rose of Sharon where we read,

am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys.

The verse begins, am the rose of Sharon, ...” Solomon began with the words, “I am the rose” or “I, the bride, exist as the meadow-saffron or crocus” “of Sharon” which means “belonging to Sharon whose name means a plain and was the district lying between the mountains of central Palestine and the Mediterranean Sea and north of Joppa”. Solomon shared how the bride declared herself to be the meadow-saffron lying between the district of the mountains of central Palestine named “Sharon”.

The verse continues, ... and the lily of the valleys. Solomon added the words, “and the lily” or “and the Shoshannim or trumpet tubular shape flower of architectural ornament” “of the valleys” which means “belonging to the lowlands, vales or open countries”. Solomon shared how the bride also likened herself to the trumpet shaped flower located within the vales or lowlands.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon about the bride's proclamation concerning herself. She was similar to the meadow-saffron flowers which were in “the district lying between the mountains of central Palestine” and in likeness to the trumpet shaped flower within the lowlands or vale. In other words, she was beautiful and lovely. God considers His bride Israel as beautiful, and Jesus considers His church as lovely and attractive. God allows anyone who will surrender their lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind to be a part of His church, His bride, and He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and create within us a beauty that is like the “meadow-saffrons” and “lilies” of the field.

Next time Solomon shares about being, the lily among the thorns, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
