In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “I charge you, O you daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that you stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please”, and in chapter three and verse six of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride asked, “who is this that comes out of the wilderness?” where we read,
Who is this that comes out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke,
perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?
The verse begins, “Who is this that comes out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, ...” Solomon began with the words, “who is this that comes out” or “what person exists the person who ascends, springs up and shoots forth” “of the wilderness” which means “from the pasture, uninhabited land and desert place” “like pillars of smoke” or “similar and in likeness to columns which were palm-like spreading at the top pertaining to dusty vapor”. Solomon shared how the bride began to question who the person was that was arriving from the desert place similar to columns of dusty fog like vapor.
The verse continues, “... perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?” Solomon added the words, “perfumed with myrrh” or “with a fragrance and aroma of an Arabian gum from the bark of a tree which was used in sacred oil and perfume” “and frankincense” which means “and the compound used in holy incense”, “with all powders” or “by the use of each, every, the whole and everyone of the aromatic pulverizations” “of the merchant” which means “belonging to the traffickers or traders”? Solomon shared how the one coming from the desert had an aroma of the bark of the Arabian gum which was the compound used in sacred oil and by the use of aromatic pulverizations.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon began to share the regal wedding that was to occur. The arriving of the royal wedding was on the scene, and not only was it filled with a cloudy vapor, but also was aromatic with scents of “myrrh and frankincense” (even as Jesus received from the wise men and while He was on the cross – See Matthew 2:11; Mark 15:23) and every one of the pulverized offerings from the traders. God also presents Himself in a regal fashion and wants us to be in a personal intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to wait in expectancy for Him to return in all His glory someday.
Next time the Solomon shares more about the wedding day and how the bride says, “behold his bed, which is Solomon's”so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
