In the book of Song of Songs, Solomon shared about the wedding and how the bride asked, “Who is this that comes out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?”, and in chapter three and verse seven of Song of Songs, Solomon shared how the bride said, “behold his bed, which is Solomon's” where we read,
Behold his bed, which is Solomon's; threescore valiant men are about it, of the valiant of Israel.
The verse begins, “Behold his bed, which is Solomon's;” Solomon began with the words, “behold his bed” or “lo, look and consider his, the groom's, couch, bier and bedchamber”, “which is Solomon's” which means “that exists as Solomon's whose name means peace and was son of David by Bathsheba and the third king of Israel”. Solomon shared how the bride called upon others to consider “Solomon's” couch or bedchamber.
The verse goes on to say, “threescore valiant men are about it, of the valiant of Israel.” Solomon continued with the words, “threescore valiant men are about it” or “sixty strong, mighty and brave male human beings encircle and surround the couch or bedchamber”, “of the valiant of Israel” which means “belonging to the strong, mighty and brave men within Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob”. Solomon shared how the bride noticed sixty strong and mighty men of “Israel” who surrounded “Solomon's” couch or bedchamber.
When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the bride wanted others to notice the sixty mighty men of “Israel” that surrounded and accompanied the “bedchamber” of “Solomon”. What a grand display of pomp and circumstance this must have been as “Solomon” entered the city with this entourage. This was a regal affair, and as the “groom” ascended upon this place for the wedding day, all attention was upon him. In those days it was the “groom” who was the person of honor, and rather than people awaiting the “bride” like many do today, the “groom” was the greatly expected party for the wedding celebration. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and become part of the “bride” of Christ Jesus who shall return for His “bride” with a royal entourage of believers who have gone on before. (See Acts 1:11; John 3:29; Revelation 21:2,9; 22:17)
Next time the Solomon shares more about the wedding day and how the bride says, “they all hold swords, being expert in war” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
