In Psalms chapter forty seven David said, “O clap your hands, all you people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph. For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth. He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet”, and in chapter forty seven and verse four of Psalms David said, “He shall choose our inheritance for us” where we read,
He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah.
The verse begins, “He shall choose our inheritance for us, ...” David began with the words, “He shall choose our inheritance” or “He, Jehovah God, will select and elect our, David and his believing companions', possession, property and heritage” “for us” which means “on behalf of us, David and his believing companions”. David said Jehovah God would select the possession and heritage for him and his companions.
The verse goes on to say, “... the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah.” David continued with the words, “the excellency of Jacob” or “the majesty, exaltation and pride belonging to Jacob whose name means heel holder or supplanter and was the son of Isaac, grandson of Abraham, and father of the twelve patriarchs of the tribes of Israel” “whom he loved” which means “whom he, Jehovah God, had great affection for and desired”. “Selah” or “exalt, lift up and pause to meditate upon it”. David said Jehovah God desired and was affectionate for “Jacob” and his descendants, and those reading these words should “pause” and meditate upon this idea.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David knew Jehovah God was responsible for the “inheritance” of the people of him, his fellow companions and “Jacob” or “Israel” whom He “loved”. God loves Israel, and He decides what their “inheritance” should be. He will do the same for every person who comes to Him through His Son Jesus who came to the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the grave three days later. When we surrender to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be responsible for our eternal “inheritance and heritage” with Him. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for their willingness to be with them for all eternity.
Next time David says, “God is gone up with a shout”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
