Psalms chapter forty seven begins with the heading, “[[To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah.]]” which breaks down, “to the chief Musician” or “to the preeminent, overseeing superintendent or chief choir director” “A Psalm” which means “a poem or melody set to notes” “for the sons of Korah” or “on behalf of the descendants or male children and grandchildren belonging to Korah whose name means bald”, and in chapter forty seven and verse one of Psalms David said, “O clap your hands, all you people” and “shout” where we read,
O clap your hands, all you people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.
The verse begins, “O clap your hands, all you people;” David began with the words, “O clap your hands” or “O strike and thrust together your, readers and listeners to David's words, physical hands”, “all you people” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of you human beings both male and female to whom David was writing”. David instructed everyone of his readers and listeners to strike their hands together.
The verse continues, “shout unto God with the voice of triumph.” David added the words, “shout unto God” or “raise a sound, cry out and give a blast toward the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “with the voice” which means “by the use of the sound and noise” “of triumph” or “pertaining to entreaty, supplication, proclamation, joy and praise”. David continued his instruction to those reading and listening to his words to “cry out” to Jehovah God by the use of a noise of proclamation, joy and praise.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David wanted his readers and listeners to be active in their worship to Jehovah God. All the people were to strike their hands together in applause and “cry out” by using a sound of proclamation and joy to Jehovah who is the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life. This should cause us to applaud and “shout” aloud to Jehovah God because He has provided victory over the power of sin and death in our lives.
Next time David says, “For the LORD most high is terrible”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
