In Psalms chapter forty six David shared how Jehovah God said, “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth”, and in chapter forty six and verse eleven of Psalms David said, “The LORD of hosts is with us” where we read,
The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
The verse begins, “The LORD of hosts is with us;” David began with the words, “The LORD of hosts” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God who goes forth with an army or mass of angels” “is with us” which means “exists alongside and beside us, David and his fellow believers”. David repeated the idea that Jehovah God who commands the Heavenly army of angels is with him and his believing companions
The verse goes on to say, “the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.” David continued with the words, “the God of Jacob” or “the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God belonging to Jacob whose name means heel-holder or supplanter and was the son of Isaac, grandson of Abraham, and father of the twelve patriarchs of the tribes of Israel” “is our refuge” which means “exists as our, David and his fellow believers', high place, secure height, retreat and stronghold”. “Selah” or “lift up, exalt and pause to meditate upon it”. David again proclaimed the Divine ruler and judge, whom “Jacob” trusted as his “God”, existed as David and his fellow believers' retreat and stronghold, and he instructed all his readers and listeners to pause and think about these things
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David repeated his words from verse seven of this chapter. As though he desired to remind his readers and listeners where he and his companion's placed their trust, David declared Jehovah God, who is the Divine judge and ruler and governs over the army of angels, to be their secure height and stronghold. God desires to be the stronghold and security for every person, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind so we could have an opportunity to receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”. When we submit to Him, we may join with David and proclaim, “the LORD of hosts is with us: the God of Jacob is our refuge”, and we should pause and meditate upon that idea.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see David say, “O clap your hands, all you people”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
