Psalms chapter forty eight begins with the heading, “[[A Song and Psalm for the sons of Korah.]]” which breaks down, “a Song” or “a musical and lyrical religious song” “and Psalm” which means “and melody or poem set to notes” “for the sons of Korah” or “on behalf of the descendants or male children and grandchildren belonging to Korah whose name means bald”, and in chapter forty eight and verse one of Psalms David said, “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised” where we read,
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
The verse begins, “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised ...” David began with the words, “Great is the LORD” or “important, mighty and much more noble exists Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “and greatly to be praised” which means “and exceedingly mighty and abundantly to be commended, shown and celebrated”. David said Jehovah God is mighty and important, and He is to be exceedingly commended and celebrated.
The verse goes on to say, “... in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.” David continued with the words, “in the city” or “within the dwelling place, habitation and encampment” “of our God” which means “belonging to our, David and his fellow believers', Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”, “in the mountains” or “within the range of hills and hill country” “of his holiness” which means “belonging to his, Jehovah God's, sacredness, separateness, consecrated and hallowed state”. David referred to the dwelling place of his and his companions' Divine judge, and within the hill country of His sacredness and hallowed state.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David exalts Jehovah God, and he shares the worth and value of Him to be “honored, revered, commended and shown” in both His dwelling place and within the range of mountains depicting His sacredness. Jehovah God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with every one of us. He sent His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for our sins so we could be forgiven and be granted everlasting life with Him. We have an opportunity not only to recognize how “Great” God is, but also to join with those who give Him honor and praise within His dwelling place and the range of mountains that declare His sacredness.
Next time David says, “Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
