In Psalms chapter forty seven David said, “God reigns over the heathen: God sits upon the throne of his holiness”, and in chapter forty seven and verse nine of Psalms David said, “the princes of the people are gathered together” where we read,
The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham:
for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted.
The verse begins, “The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham:” David began with the words, “The princes” or “the inclined, willing, generous and noble” “of the people” which means “belonging to the human beings both male and female” “are gathered together” or “are collected with one another and assembled”, “even the people” which means “indeed and also the human beings both male and female” “of the God of Abraham” or “belonging to the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God of Abraham whose name means father or chief of a multitude and was a friend of God and founder of the Hebrew nation by way of God's elective covenant”. David said the nobles belonging to the “people” were assembled, and these people belonged to the Divine ruler in whom father “Abraham” believed.
The verse continues, “for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted.” David added the words, “for the shields” or “because, since and on account that the buckler, protecter, ruler and scale” “of the earth” which means “belonging to the country, territory, region, district and world” “belong unto God” or “dwell and exist with the Divine ruler, judge and Supreme God”: “he is greatly exalted” which means “he, Jehovah God, exists as exceedingly and intensely ascended, sprung up, risen and excelled”. David said the protection within the world dwells with Jehovah God who is the Divine ruler and judge who is highly and exceedingly lifted up.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David recognized the noble leaders and people who were part of the family of “Abraham”, and He referred to the protection God provides and oversees within the world. God is over everything, and He rules over all mankind. Even the most noble among people are assembled before Him as well as the people who are the descendants of “Abraham” because He owns all the defensive weapons in the world. God is risen and greatly excels because He sent His Son Jesus to be crucified for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. He is worthy of all our praise, honor and glory for ages without end.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see David say, “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
