In Psalms chapter forty six David said, “Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he has made in the earth”, and in chapter forty six and verse nine of Psalms David said, “He makes wars to cease” where we read,
He makes wars to cease unto the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow, and cuts the spear in sunder; he burns the chariot in the fire.
The verse begins, “He makes wars to cease unto the end of the earth;” David began with the words, “He makes wars to cease” or “He, Jehovah God, ceases, desists and causes battles, engagements and fighting to rest” “unto the end” which means “to the extremity, border, outskirts and outmost coast” “of the earth” or “belonging to the country, territory, district, region and world”. David said Jehovah God causes fightings and battles all over the world to cease and desist.
The verse goes on to say, “he breaks the bow, and cuts the spear in sunder; he burns the chariot in the fire.” David continued with the words, “he breaks the bow” or “he, Jehovah God, wrecks, crushes, ruptures and maims the archery bow used for hunting and battle”, “and cuts the spear in sunder” which means “and hews and chops into pieces the javelin, spear head or lance”; “he burns the chariot” or “he, Jehovah God, kindles and sets on fire the wheeled vehicle, cart or wagon used in battle” “in the fire” which means “within the flames and hot burning”. David said Jehovah God also crushes and ruptures the hunting bow and sets on fire the spear and wagon used in battle.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David said Jehovah God is the ultimate conqueror of both the weapons of battle and war itself. Fighting has existed among people since the time of Cain and Abel, (See Genesis 4) and people continue to battle with one another today. In the midst of David's war, He depended upon Jehovah God. God desires this type of relationship with every person through His Son Jesus whom He into the world to die for the sins of all mankind. Whenever we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, we will be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and align with Jehovah God as the power and strength over every weapon and person who rises against us. (See Isaiah 54:17)
Next time David says, “Be still, and know that I am God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
