As the Hart Pants - Psalms 42:1

Psalms chapter forty two begins with the heading, “[[To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah.]]” which breaks down, “to the chief musician” or “to the preeminent, overseeing superintendent or chief choir director”, “Maschil” which means “an instructive and didactic song or poem of contemplation”, “for the sons of Korah” or “on behalf of the descendants or male children and grandchildren belonging to Korah whose name means bald”, and in chapter forty two and verse one of Psalms David said, “As the hart pants after the water brooks, so pants my soul after you” where we read,

As the hart pants after the water brooks, so pants my soul after you, O God.

The verse begins, As the hart pants after the water brooks, ... David began with the words, “as the hart pants” or “in the likeness of a stag or male deer that longs and cries” “after the water brooks” which means “toward the channels, ravines or streams of refreshment”. David began this Psalms with likening himself to a “deer” that longs and thirsts for streams and ravines of refreshment.

The verse goes on to say, “... so pants my soul after you, O God.” David continued with the words, “so pants my soul after you” or “therefore and thus my, David's, inner man, mind, will, desire, emotions, passions and appetites long and thirsts for you, Jehovah God”, “O God” which means “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. David said his “living being” longed and thirsted for Jehovah God.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how passionate and thirsty David was for Jehovah God. He likened his desire to a deer that that was parched and wanted water to drink from a stream. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when we long for Him and desire to have Him in our lives, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and accompany us by His Holy Spirit every day we live. Let us be passionate for Jehovah God and His Son Jesus and give them praise, honor and glory for all eternity as He quenches our thirst for Him.

Next time David says,My soul thirsts for God, for the living God, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
