Hearing with Our Ears - Psalms 44:1

Psalms chapter forty four begins with the heading, “[[To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, Maschil.]]” which breaks down, “to the chief musician” or “to the preeminent, overseeing superintendent or chief choir director” “for the sons of Korah” which means “on behalf of the descendants or male children and grandchildren belonging to Korah whose name means bald” “Maschil” or “an instructive and didactic song or poem of contemplation”, and in chapter forty four and verse one of Psalms David said, “we have heard with our ears, O God” where we read,

We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us,

what work you did in their days, in the times of old.

The verse begins, We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, ... David began with the words, “we have heard with our ears” or “we, David and his fellow believers, have listened to, perceived and understood by the use of our physical ears”, “O God” which means “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”, “our fathers have told us” or “our, David and his fellow believers', forefathers and male progenitors and ancestors have counted, recounted and related to us, David and his fellow believers”. David told Jehovah God that he and his fellow believers perceived with their ears and their forefathers have declared to them the following.

The verse goes on to say, “... what work you did in their days, in the times of old.” David continued with the words, “what work you did in their days” or “the deeds and acts you, Jehovah God, performed, made ready and produced within the forefathers' time or years upon the earth”, “in the times of old” which means “within the periods of time or years belonging to antiquity, aforetime and of before”. David referred to the acts and deeds which were spoken of by his forefathers during the years they lived upon the earth.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David referred to the acts and deeds of Jehovah God spoken of by his ancestors. The writer of Hebrews said, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever”, and the same God who worked in the past will work in our day as well. God has been saving people from their sins since His Son Jesus died upon the cross to pay the penalty of death for them. Today, anyone, anywhere, who humbles themselves, repents of their sins and believes and trusts in Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life with God and begin to see Him do marvelous works in their life. God loves us and wants us to be in an intimate relationship with Him, and we who believe shall give Him praise, honor and glory for all eternity for His wonderful acts and deeds provided in the past for others and in the present for us.

Next time David says,How you did drive out the heathen with your hand, and planted them, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
