No Desire for Sacrifice and Offering - Psalms 40:6

In Psalms chapter forty David said, “Blessed is that man that makes the LORD his trust, and respects not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. Many, O LORD my God, are your wonderful works which you have done, and your thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto you: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered”, and in chapter forty and verse six of Psalms David said, “sacrifice and offering you did not desire” where we read,

Sacrifice and offering you did not desire;

my ears have you opened: burnt offering and sin offering have you not required.

The verse begins, Sacrifice and offering you did not desire; David began with the words, “Sacrifice and offering” or “slaughter of an animal as a victim and gift, tribute, present and oblation to God” “you did not desire” which means “you, Jehovah God, did not take pleasure, delight in or favor”. David said Jehovah God did not take pleasure in the “slaughter of animals as a gift or present” of dedication toward Him.

The verse continues,my ears have you opened: burnt offering and sin offering have you not required.” David added the words, “my ears have you opened” or “my, David's, hearing, broadness and audience you, Jehovah God, have excavated, dug through and bore open”: “burnt offering” which means “burnt sacrifices ascending or going up in smoke” “and sin offering” or “and sacrifices of prayer for errors, wrong, mistakes and missing of the mark” “have you not required” which means “you, Jehovah God, have in no way asked for, borrowed, inquired and requested”. David said Jehovah God gave him the ability to hear Him, and the “burnt and sin offerings” of sacrifice were not asked for by Him.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse,we learn how David knew the ritual of “sacrifices and offerings” were not what God wanted. Although Jehovah God began the spiritual practices of “sacrifices and offerings”, the rituals themselves were not what God actually required. God wants people to love Him and walk with Him every day, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of mankind so they could be forgiven and live forever with Him. Spiritual practices alone do not align us with Jehovah God, and only when a person confesses with their mouth the Lord Jesus, and believes in their heart that He is God's Son does it insure that a person is saved. (See Romans 10:9,10) When we surrender our lives to Jesus, we will praise and honor Him for all eternity for opening our ears to hear and believe in His good news of salvation.

Next time David says,Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, ..., so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
