Walking in a Vain Show - Psalms 39:6

In Psalms chapter thirty nine David said, LORD … you have made my days as an handbreadth; and my age is as nothing before you: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.”, and in chapter thirty nine and verse six of Psalms David said, “surely every man walks in a vain show” where we read,

Surely every man walks in a vain show: surely they are disquieted in vain:

he heaps up riches, and knows not who shall gather them.

The verse begins, Surely every man walks in a vain show: surely they are disquieted in vain: David began with the words, “Surely every man” or “howbeit, truly and indeed each, the whole, all of mankind both male and female” “walks in a vain show” which means “proceeds, moves and behaves themselves like a phantom, illusion and a representative figure or image”: “surely they are disquieted in vain” or “howbeit, truly and indeed every person growls, cries aloud, rages, makes noise and murmurs in emptiness and as something transitory and unsatisfactory”. David said each person proceeds and moves in an illusive manner, and they murmur and rage in emptiness.

The verse goes on to say,he heaps up riches, and knows not who shall gather them. David continued with the words, “he heaps up riches” or “the person walking in a vain show and murmuring gathers, assembles and lays up abundance and wealth”, “and knows not” which means “and does not perceive, understand, discriminate, recognize or consider” “who shall gather them” or “what person will receive, collect and assemble the person's abundance and wealth”. David said the person who “walks in a vain show” and is “disquieted” will gather abundance and wealth, but does not perceive or recognize the person who will receive them after they are gone.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see through David the “vanity” that is associated with people who live and grumble. Although they gather together “riches” and “wealth” on earth, when they die, they often do not know who will receive them or how they will use them. The scripture says, “Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them (See Psalm 62:10), and Jesus said, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust does corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (See Matthew 6:19-21) God desires to give us the “true riches” that last for all eternity, and when we receive His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide us with eternal wealth that shall last forever. Let us give praise, glory and honor to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for providing not only temporary life upon the earth, but also eternal life where believers shall forever live with Him in Heaven.

Next time David asks, Lord, what wait I for?, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
