Lord Why Do You Sleep? - Psalms 44:23

In Psalms chapter forty four David said, “for your sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter”, and in chapter forty four and verse twenty-three of Psalms David asked, “Awake, why do you sleep, O Lord?” where we read,

Awake, why do you sleep, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.

The verse begins, Awake, why do you sleep, O Lord? David began with the word, “Awake” or “rouse, incite and stir up”, “why do you sleep” which means “for what reason and cause are you, Jehovah God, remaining, enticed and slacking in a stored up state”, “O Lord” or “O Adonay or reverent master”? David instructed his reverent master Jehovah God to rouse and stir up Himself from sleeping.

The verse goes on to say, arise, cast us not off for ever.” David continued with the word, “arise” or “wake up and arouse from sleep”, “cast us not off” which means “do not forcefully reject, spurn or become odious to David and his believing companions” “for ever” or “to perpetuity, victory, everlasting and enduring of life”. David appealed to Jehovah God to “wake up” and not forcefully reject he and his fellow believers to perpetuity.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David believed Jehovah God to be “asleep” and needed to be awakened by him because of His lack of action toward him. Psalm chapter one hundred twenty one and verse four says, “Behold, he that keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep”, and although David believed God was asleep, He was not. God is always aware of everything we endure, and His love is extended to us at all times. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for the sins of mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and accompany us in everything at all times regardless of whether we believe He is asleep.

Next time David asks Jehovah God,Wherefore hide you your face?, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
