A Lion - Proverbs 30:30

In the book of Proverbs Agur said, “There be three things which go well, yes, four are comely in going”, and in chapter thirty and verse thirty of Proverbs Agur shared about, “a lion” where we read,

A lion which is strongest among beasts,

and turns not away for any;

The verse begins, A lion which is strongest among beasts, ... Agur began with the words, “a lion” or “a young lion with a mane” “which is strongest” which means “that exists as most mighty, brave and powerful” “among beasts” or “in the company of cattle, livestock and wild animals”. Agur referred to the young powerful “lion” that is mightier than all the other livestock or wild animals.

The verse continues, “... and turns not away for any; Agur added the words, “and turns not away” or “and will not retreat or withdraw” “for any” which means “from anything or any of the wild animals”. Agur said the “lion” does not retreat from any of the wild animals.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Agur about the courage and bravery of a “lion” who is not only more powerful than all the other wild animals, but also does not withdraw from any of them. God Almighty put this trait within the “lion”, and because it is known as the “king of the jungle”, most “lions” do not retreat from any battle. God wants us to know that our courage and strength comes from Him, and because He loves us and wants to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His boldness like a “lion” to be His witnesses in this world regardless of who or what we encounter.

Next time Agur shares about, “a greyhound”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
