In the book of Hosea, Hosea shared how Jehovah God said, “Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts. Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst”, and in chapter two and verse four of Hosea, Hosea said, “I will not have mercy upon her children” where we read,
And I will not have mercy upon her children;
for they be the children of whoredoms.
The verse begins, “And I will not have mercy upon her children;” Hosea began with the words, “and I will not have mercy” or “and I, Jehovah God, shall in no way or manner have compassion, pity or affection” “upon her children” or “on her, Hosea's wife and Ammi and Ruhamah's mother's, offspring and progeny”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God said He would not have compassion or pity upon the offspring of Israel.
The verse goes on to say, “for they be the children of whoredoms.” Hosea continued with the words, “for they be the children” or “because, since and on account that they, the offspring and progeny of Israel, exist as the offspring and progeny” “of whoredoms” which means “belonging to adultery, prostitution and fornication”. Hosea shared how Jehovah God would not have compassion upon the offspring of Israel because they were the product of adultery and idolatry.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Hosea's home situation became an illustration for the way the nation of Israel abandoned Jehovah God. Hosea's second two children were the product of his wife committing adultery, and she became an example of the way Israel forsook the LORD. God wants everyone to be in a personal intimate relationship with Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind to provide access to Him. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a passion for Him and a desire to never leave or forsake our relationship with Him.
Next time Hosea says, “for their mother has played the harlot”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
